Jim Salter is an experienced and successful intellectual property attorney having served as managing partner of a large Silicon Valley intellectual property law firm for ten years and the Senior Director of Intellectual Property and Patent Counsel for Macrovision Corporation (now Xperi Corp.) in Santa Clara, CA.
After graduating from U.S.C. in Los Angeles, CA with a B.S. in Computer Science, he worked as software and systems engineer for about ten years prior to attending law school. In 1989, he joined the law firm of Blakely, Sokoloff, Taylor, and Zafman LLP and became Managing Partner of the Sunnyvale office, the largest office of the Blakely firm.
During his 15 years with the Blakely firm, he prosecuted, licensed, and enforced patents and patent applications primarily related to computer systems, Internet technology, digital rights management, and software products for a variety of Silicon Valley clients, including Intel, Apple, eBay, and Cisco.
While at Macrovision, Mr. Salter was responsible for managing, monetizing, enforcing, and licensing Macrovision’s substantial patent portfolio. In 2005, Mr. Salter joined Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner, a large intellectual property law firm. Later, he formed his own firm, Inventive Patent Law P.C.
Mr. Salter has served as expert witness and litigation support counsel in several patent litigation matters. He is a registered patent attorney and a member of the State bars of California and the State of Washington.
